"The Kockums Crane (or Kockumskranen in Swedish) was a 138-metre-tall crane, formerly of the Swedish shipyard Kockums in Malmö. It was built in 1973–1974 and capable of lifting 1500 tonnes. The rail width was 175 metres, the rail length 710 metres. The crane was used to build approximately 75 ships.

Since 1974, the Kockums Crane had been a landmark in Malmö and a symbol of the city's manufacturing industry, but in 2002 it was disassembled and moved to South Korea. In 2005, Malmö gained a new landmark with completion of Turning Torso , the tallest skyscraper in Scandinavia.

The rail width was 175 metres, the rail length 710 metres. A former symbol of this city was represented by the Kockums Crane that was removed in 2002. It was located near the current place of the Turning Torso and it was called Kockumskranen. This crane was used for shipbuilding and it held powerful references regarding the city`s blue collar roots.

The crane was clearly visible from both land and sea, and of course also from the worker’s residence. The original rooms were equipped with a small kitchenette, and one can still see the old laundry chutes on the hotel floor plan. In 1977, the Kockums worker’s residence was shuttered and the building was renovated to become a proper hotel.
